Jefferson Court House. Mustered into service 
May 13, 1861, at Harpers Ferry (no. of miles
to place of muster shown as 10) Age 35, farmer 
Enlisted by Capt. Rowan: last paid by Major Fields on 
June 30, 1861 Was wounded in the abdomen in
the Battle of Manassas on 21 July, one record says he died
of his wounds 2 August. The Orange Hospital Register of 
Orange Hospital, Orange Court House, VA. says admitted 
July 23, 1861, died of his wounds August 8,1861. This is
most likely correct.      
Attorney, Andrew Hunter, filed a claim which was settled for $15.73.

It is interesting that he came from a Union sympathising
state to volunteer in VA & was killed in the first battle 
of the war. 
The 2nd VA was part of the "Stonewall Brigade" under
T.J. Jackson, hereafter known as Stonewall Jackson.
