John HURST, b. circa 1800-1812, immigrated from London, England at an early age and landed in Providence, RI. He studied for the Ministry in the Presbyterian Church and was sent to AL as a Missionary to "convert the Indians". Apparently died during the Civil War, and is buried in the cemetery in Fredonia, AL. He married Sarah McDONALD (b.1812-d.1899) in Old Fredonia, N.E. AL. She was the mother of at least six children, died at age 87, and is buried beside her husband in Fredonia, AL. Children: four sons; John, 'Doc', Reid, Marshall, Two daughters; 'Lou', Georgia Alice, nicknamed 'Ceba' 'Doc' and Reid were apparently "noted physicians/surgeons, having served in the Confederate Army throughout the War". Georgia Alice "Ceba" HURST, (16 Nov 1844 - 17 Jul 1931) m. 5 May 1868 in East TX, Lauron Haterias ROSSER, (20 Jan 1845 - 08 Jan 1924) A Civil War Veteran, he enlisted at age of 16 with Capt Lumsden, under Gen. Joseph E. Johnson. He fought in GA, SC, TN; was captured in the battle of Nashville by a cavalry unit, incarcerated in Camp Douglas, Chicago, ILL to the end of the War. Teacher, Law Student, and Pioneer TX Cattle Rancher. Was a Law Student under Judge TRAMMELL, a cousin of Miss Georgia Alice "Ceba" HURST, with whom he was boarding when he met his future bride. He studied Law along with James S. HOGG the future Governor of TX-- to whom he gave his Law Books. Last known ranch in Hale Co., TX.
