My Grandmother's brother Bertram Victor Hurst enlisted in the North
Loyal Lancashire Regiment in Blackpool, Lancashire. He died 01 July 1916
in the Battle of the Somme; he was not quite 21 years old. These postcards
& letters were with my Grandmother's photos. I have copied them verbatim
including spelling.

postcard - embroidered with a plane with the words "Vers Victoire"
on the wings; the French & English flags & the date "1915"
in a rising sun

a red rose. It was written in pencil & is very faint.

Letter with no envelope: 25/01/16
Dear Lil
I am keeping well & hope all at Home are the same. I have not heard
from Tom yet. So tell him to write when you send him word. How is Jack
going on in army. I suppose he will be ready to come out here if his mother
will let him. Well I dont think I can say anymore only have you got that
letter telling you when the war will end. So must close best love from

Dear Lil I am glad to hear that your still in the best of health as am
about the same. I see you are still sticking out at work & I hope you
do. Well Lil I think Tom must of gone to the Balham's for I think that
is one of the liklyst shops. You know Lil the war doesnt seem to get nearer
the end. I think when anybody goes on pass they dont half get it in Eng.
I am glad to hear that Jack is still in Liverpool and I hope he sticks
there. Well I hope they are all well when you go home. Well I must close
