Elijah Hurst of Harrison Co, Indiana (son of Capt. John Hurst and Lydia Smith) is listed as serving in Capt. Spier Spencer's Mounted Riflemen, Indiana Territory Militia during the War of 1812. His company was known as the "Yellow Jackets" and fought at the Battle of Tippecanoe. According to the muster roll and pay roll for Capt. Spencer's Company, Elijah served at least from 12 Sept 1811 to 28 Nov 1811 and held the rank of sergeant. Elijah is also listed in the History of Harrison County. Capt Spencer was killed in the battle as were two of his Lieutenants.
